Fishery Information

Fordecombe is a stretch of the River Medway that is not only known for being a barbel river, but also for offering excellent general coarse fishing. It is home to a good variety of fish species including dace, chub to 3 lbs., perch, pike, grayling, roach, brown trout and carp. Most of the barbel caught on site are from the big pools. However, it is possible to catch some from the fast runs.

What size do the fish go to?

Chub go up to 3 lbs..

What tactics work well?

Best baits include meat, boilies, paste, pellets and maggots. Either roam from swim to swim or concentrate on one swim building it up with swim-feedered maggots. Roach and dace are not present in the numbers they once were, although they can still be caught trotting maggots or bread, while the grayling can be found in the shallow runs.
