Fishery Information

Gorsty Hall is a beautiful lake situated just outside Crewe in Balterley. It comprises of 2 lakes – the Main Lake and the Specimen Lake. Even if you are a new comer or a seasoned angler, this place has a lot to offer to you.

The Main Lake is known as an ancient natural water that is home to carp up to 24 lbs.. On the other hand, the Specimen Pool is the newer, smaller, but deeper lake with carp of over 30 lbs.. Other species present in the fishery include perch up to 3 lbs., bream up to 4 lbs., tench, crucians, rudd, roach and perch.

What size do the fish go to?

Carp go to over 30 lbs., perch to 3lbs. and bream to 4 lbs..

What tactics work well?

Method feeders with a 10-mm banded or hair rigged pop up and maggot feeder with a 6-inch hooklink are known to work well. It is advisable to fish the margins or up against the pads in the summer. Smelly baits are known to work well, too.

  1. Great place to fish for some runs. The average size is 5-8lb and you can tell they get caught a lot. The biggest would probably be around the 20lb mark rather than 30 as listed. There are not really any facilities on site other than a toilet.

    Park on the right side as you arrive and you can go down as far as the barrier/ turning point. The right side pegs are more popular as you don’t have to walk anywhere!
