Fishery Information

This fishery is run by Christchurch Angling Club.

Holtwood Pools is a beautiful 3 pool complex that has undergone significant redevelopment in recent years. It is now known as a tench and crucian fishery, offering anglers the opportunity to catch a variety of fish in an idyllic setting. The complex has been carefully designed to accommodate all anglers, with wheelchair-friendly swims and excellent platforms on each pool.

What size do the fish go to?

  • Miller’s Pool: Predominantly a tench venue with fish over 6lb already reported. It also contains pure strain crucians, roach, and perch.
  • Bascombe’s Pool: Stocked to offer more action in colder months, this is a ‘silverfish’ water with chub, roach, rudd, bream, and perch present, with the latter reaching over 2lb.
  • Shambles: A pure strain crucian venue with tench and roach also present. Depths range from 4 to 8 feet, offering a great venue for float fishing. The absence of carp makes heavy tackle unnecessary.

What tactics work well?

As Holtwood Pools is primarily a tench and crucian fishery, using tactics and baits suitable for these species will likely yield good results. For Miller’s Pool, targeting tench and crucians with appropriate baits such as maggots, worms, and corn may prove effective. In Bascombe’s Pool, anglers can enjoy action with silverfish like chub, roach, and perch using traditional coarse fishing tactics. In Shambles, float fishing can be a successful method for catching crucians and tench.

What facilities are on site?

The complex has undergone extensive development to provide excellent facilities for anglers. It boasts a secure car park, wildlife fencing, and well-constructed platforms on each pool. Additionally, the venue offers wheelchair-friendly swims, ensuring accessibility for all anglers.

Is parking available?

Yes, Holtwood Pools provides a secure car park for visitors, ensuring a convenient and safe parking experience during your fishing trip.
