Fishery Information

Horrocks Flash is a very large lake situated in the flashes nature reserve in Wigan. Although this lake is very large, there are plenty of features to fish to. The shape of Horrocks Flash can also make it feel a lot smaller. It is a horseshoe-shaped lake, with a large pond at the end as well. Of course, this does mean that the fish can be tricky to locate here. If you can locate the fish, though, there are plenty to catch, and it doesn’t take too much to get the fish going here.

What size do the fish go to?

We aren’t too sure how big the fish are in Horrocks Flash. There could be a number of 30lb carp, according to locals, but no catch information is available for these. We know there are a good amount of 20s and double-figure carp, though. There are also plenty of big bream, the occasional tench and plenty of roach and rudd. Of course, most of the anglers that fish Horrocks Flash regularly are after the larger carp.

What tactics work well?

There is also no other fishing venue where location is more important. There are loads of small islands and a larger island at the smaller end of the lake. These are good options. However, when you arrive at the lake, have a walk and see if you can see any activity at all. If you can, fish towards the activity. Bright bottom baits are ideal here.

What facilities are on site?

No facilities that we know of.

Is parking available?

Yes, parking is available.
