Fishery Information

Rochdale Canal flows through Sale in Greater Manchester. There are a number of fishing clubs that have access to the canal. Sadly, though, Rochdale Canal is often thought of as a last resort by most angling club members because they prefer the lakes. When fished correctly, though, Rochdale Canal can produce a mixed bag of wonderfully hard fighting fish. Sure, the canal is a bit more challenging than other waters, but that is why many anglers love canal fishing. Plus, the fish that you can catch are extremely varied and nice and rewarding.

What size do the fish go to?

Rochdale Canal does have a few carp, maybe even to about 20lbs. There are also some pike here in the winter, again to about 20lbs. There are some nice-sized perch, roach and rudd too. Rochdale Canal even has some nice bream and tench as well as dace and chub. As we said, Rochdale Canal has a very mixed bag.

What tactics work well?

Rochdale Canal is a great place to target different fish species. Of course, the tactics vary for different fish species, but closed feeders and float fishing are generally the go-tos here. Worm, maggot, corn and paste are all good hookbaits, but meat does really well here too. There are few areas of the canal with overhanging trees that are worth exploring. If you can find a moored boat, there could also be fish hiding under there too.

What facilities are on site?

As Rochdale Canal flows through Sale, there are local shops and cafes very close by. There are also public toilets as well.

Is parking available?

Yes, parking is available.
