The Serpentine is a 17 acre lake situated in Greenway Bank Country Park, Staffordshire. It is considered the club’s premier specimen water, offering a diverse range of fish species and notable specimen sizes.

What size do the fish go to?

The Serpentine boasts impressive sizes for various fish species. Roach can reach weights well into 3lb+, while Perch can touch 4lb. Bream in double figures are also present. The lake is known for its large carp, with some exceeding 20lb. The biggest carp, known as Big Linear, currently weighs around 32lb, although the weight may vary depending on the time of year. In addition to these specimens, 80 young carp were stocked in late 2007, ranging from 5 to 10lb, with the hope of reaching double figures and pushing towards 20lb+ in the future. The Serpentine also offers opportunities for catching massive pike, with the largest recorded at just over 23lb, and reports of an even larger fish estimated to exceed 30lb.

What tactics work well?

Various tactics can be successful when fishing in the Serpentine. For Roach, traditional float fishing or feeder fishing with appropriate bait can yield good results. When targeting Perch, anglers can use live or dead baits, as well as lures or jigs. Bream respond well to methods like ledgering with groundbait and corn or pellets as bait. Carp fishing often involves the use of boilies, carp rigs, and baiting strategies to attract and hook the larger specimens. Experienced pike anglers may employ various techniques such as trolling, deadbaiting, or lure fishing to entice these predatory fish.

What facilities are on site?

The Serpentine benefits from being located within Greenway Bank Country Park, offering a natural and picturesque setting for anglers. While specific facilities may vary, the fishery may provide amenities such as fishing platforms or pegs, seating areas, and well-maintained banks for comfortable fishing.
