Altnahinch Reservoir

Address

Ballymoney, UK

Fishery Information:

Altnahinch Reservoir, situated in an exposed area of peaty moorland, is at the head of the River Bush. The reservoir is surrounded mostly by forest and the solid banks make it ideal for shore fishing. The bay at the head of the reservoir is quite sheltered and has a deep channel easily covered from the south-western shore. Fishing from boats is not allowed.

What size do the fish go to?

Brown trout of around 3kg have been regularly taken from the reservoir.

What tactics work well?

The lake fishes well to small attractor fly patterns such as Bibio in early spring with sedge patterns more effective later in the season. Spinning with red and blue spotted Mepps also works well.
