Fishery Information

Beechwood Park is widely regarded as one of the best places for both recreational and competitive fishing. The three counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Leicestershire make up the catchment area for anglers, established more than 20 years ago. The Beechwood fishery features 170 pegs dispersed across five lakes, making it suitable for anglers of all skill levels.

Swan 1 is the smallest of the six lakes at Beechwood Park, with only 14 pegs, but it is well stocked with carp ranging from three to six pounds in weight and a large number of silver fish. It is not uncommon for roach and rudd match weights to exceed sixty pounds, and one can catch carp weighing one hundred pounds from any venue, particularly in warmer months. Because the lake is open water, there are no snags, and all approaches are effective.

At the very front of the park, right next to its sister lake Swan 1, and just a few feet from the Tackle Shop, is where you will find Swan 2. There are two islands, each with 24 fishing platforms and a substantial additional platform that can serve as a fishing station for people with disabilities or as a family platform large enough for an adult and a few children.

Warren Lake, a 24-peg lake that also goes by “Mr. Crabtree,” is located in a depression behind Swan 1. It got its name from the abundance of rabbits that inhabit the area around the lake. The pegs, unique to Beechwood Park, are on an island in the middle of the course and accessed through a bridge. With 30 pegs and an island smack in the middle, Oak Lake is as distinctive as the oak tree, which stands halfway along one of the lake’s shores.

Kingfisher Lake, which is the largest lake in Beechwood, has a total of forty pegs. Anglers of all stripes, from serious competitors to weekend warriors, give this a high rating because of the abundance of fishing opportunities.

Horseshoe Lake is presently being used as a growing pond. It supplies Beechwood with a consistent quantity of beautiful young carp, ensuring that Beechwood’s abundant fish stocks continue to be in good health.

What size do the fish go to?

Many 100lb plus match weights have been caught from the Oak Lake. Heavily stocked with carp, roach and rudd, Kingfisher Lake has produced many 200lb bags of fish. Carp run to 15lb or so with a large head of 10lb+ fish.

What tactics work well?

Kingfisher will test all your fishing talents, with bays where you can cast a feeder or waggler and points where you can fish with a pole. Fishing a Pole or Waggler to one of the islands can see a reaction from a number of the large resident carp.

What facilities are on site?

An on-site fishing tackle shop provides a wide selection of baits necessary for a successful fishing excursion  in fishing or boating. There are toilets available for both males and females on the premises, disabled access, and boat hire.

Is parking available?

Yes, parking is available.
