If you are looking for a nice coarse fishing site located near Great Rollright in Oxfordshire, check out Butlers Hill Fishery. Previously used as irrigation lakes for a fruit farm, the waters on this venue are well-stocked with stunning carp. There are 3 beautiful pools (Island Pool, Middle Pool and Far Pool) on site that also hold tench, bream and roach.

Island Pool is a 1-acre pool that has a depth of 12 feet. It holds mirror and common carp to 20 lbs., ghost carp into teens, roach, chub, rudd, crucians to over 1 lb., silver fish and bream and tench to 3 lbs..

Middle Pool, which is much shallower than Island Pool, is a 1-acre water that has a depth of 4 feet. It is home to roach to 2 lbs., rudd to 1 lb., bream to 5 lbs., mirror carp to 23 lbs., common carp into double figures and small ghost carp.

Far Pool, which is the furthest from the car park, is a 0.5 acre water that is stocked with over 50 double-figure fish ranging between 10 lbs. and 16 lbs.. Quality specimen roach weighing over 1 lb. are present in this pool as well. Other residents include common carp, mirror carp, ghost carp, crucian carp, rudd, tench and bream. Considered as an easy water, this lake is only about 3.5 feet deep.

This fishery runs on a day ticket basis and allows night fishing. The owners are trying to make this venue more suitable for disabled anglers and have installed new toilet facilities as well.

Carp go to 23 lbs., crucians to 1 lb., roach to 2 lbs., rudd to 1lb. and bream to 5 lbs..

What tactics work well?

Island Pool: This water fishes well on both rod and pole, whilst float and ledger techniques are both effective. Floating baits produce good results during the summer season. Best baits for catching silver fish include maggots, worm, sweet corn, luncheon meat, cat food and pellets. Carp anglers usually rely on these baits as well as boilies of various flavours.

Middle Pool: This water is popular with pole anglers using casters, maggots, sweet corn, luncheon meat and pellets.

Far Pool: Waggler fishing is a popular method for this water. Most popular baits for catching carp include boilies, luncheon meat, paste and sweet corn. Crucians, tench and silver fish respond well to maggots, casters, sweet corn, pellets and luncheon meat.
