Fishery Information

Grenville Lake is a mature 72-acre gravel pit located in rural Cambridgeshire. The lake has depths of up to 38 feet and holds an extraordinary stock of carp. The lake is run on a family-friendly syndicate basis, and membership is by recommendation only. The lake’s stock of carp is estimated to be around 2000, and they are all 100% UK-born and stocked at two to four summers old. The original stockings between 2003 and 2009 consisted of Fishers Pond and Andy Parker carp, and the stock has been augmented with carp reared on site in the extensive stock ponds.

What size do the fish go to?

The lake holds a remarkable stock of carp, with 12 new 40lb+ fish being caught in the first six months of the 20/21 season. The lake has a history of throwing up surprises, and approximately half the stock gets caught each year, with many fish going uncaught for several years or more and then gracing the bank 5-10lb heavier. The lake’s sheer size and depth, combined with strong undertow and significant weed in places, make for challenging fishing. Big hits of fish are commonplace, and so are blanks.

What tactics work well?

Fishing at Grenville Lake requires some skill and patience due to the challenging conditions. Anglers should use strong and reliable equipment and tackle, and fishing with a bottom bait or a pop-up rig is recommended. Pre-baiting can help attract the fish, and good quality boilies and bait should be used. As the lake has significant weed in places, using weedless rigs and fishing near the weed edges can be effective. The lake also regularly throws up surprises, so anglers should be prepared for anything.

What facilities are on site?

There are 35 well-spaced and comfortable swims at Grenville Lake, which offer some protection from the elements when the big winds blow across the lake. However, there is no information provided about the other facilities available on site. It’s best to check with the fishery or ask for information from other anglers who have fished at the lake.

Is parking available?

Unfortunately, there is no information provided about parking at Grenville Lake. As membership is by recommendation only, it’s best to check with the fishery or ask for information from other anglers who have fished at the lake.
