Fishery Information

Horseshoe Lake sits on the border of Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire and is probably one of the most famous carp lakes in England. Horseshoe has certainly made the news in the angling world over the years, sometimes not for good reasons, but that has all changed.

In recent years, Horseshoe has been restocked every single year. There is now roughly 1,000 carp in the lake, with 200 to 300 original fish still to be caught. There are hundreds of carp in here that can beat most angler’s PB, so what are you waiting for?

What size do the fish go to?

The biggest carp in the lake is currently Target, which is a mirror carp at 38lbs. There is also a common carp at 38lbs. However, there are at least 15 other beautiful carp to over 30lbs, but chances are there are more than that. There are probably over a hundred 20s in this lake and hundreds of double figures. You need to fish this lake if you like fishing for big carp.

What tactics work well?

Corn has always worked well on this venue. The owners think that about 70% of the carp caught at Horseshoe have been caught over corn or using corn on a snowman style rig. Pink baits often work well here too, but so do yellow baits. Zig rigs are also a great option.

What facilities are on site?

There are toilets and showers available. There is also a tackle shop and catering too.

Is parking available?

Yes, there are several car parks around the lake.
