Fishery Information

Located between Braintree and Colchester, the Houchins Reservoir consists of two separate reservoirs that are almost 3 acres. Among the well-known pleasure fisheries in this area, the Reservoir is stocked with Bream, Perch, Rudd, Roach, and Carp.

The Front Reservoir is mixed and has a stock of mainly Tench, Perch, and Carp. On the other hand, the Rear Reservoir is mixed as well but contains mainly Bream, Catfish, and other smaller fish.

Reportedly, the fishery stands in a quiet area and is also lined with trees all around. There are access roads around both reservoirs and the only establishment is the nearby wedding venue. Other than that, the fishery is pretty much in a remote location, ideal for anglers that love to doze off from time to time, without rude interruptions other than a tight line.

What size do the fish go to?

Tench of up to 5lbs.

Perch of up to 3lbs.

Carp of around 28lbs.

Bream of up to 5lbs.

Catfish of around 54lbs.

Average size small fish in the Rear Reservoir, but in low numbers.

What tactics work well?

Catfish is best caught with worms of all kinds, minnows, shad, stink bait and pretty much any type of meat – luncheon, mussels, prawns, squid, and so on.

Carp, on the other hand, is keen on bread, corn, and boilies.

All the other species are easily caught with Jiggly bait and worms.

What facilities are on site?

Portable toilets available during the summer months.

Is parking available?

Parking spots are available near the reservoirs but are limited.
