Movanagher Canal

Address

Ballymoney BT53 7NU, United Kingdom

Fishery Information

The canal stretch of Movanagher is a popular coarse fishery, with pike, perch, roach, bream, and hybrids present. Anglers can use all lawful methods including ground bait and maggots for coarse fish. Fishing is not allowed from the west bank between the canal and the river. The fishing stands along this stretch were built many decades ago and do not meet the standard for the safety of anglers using them.

What size do the fish go to?

Pike weighing up to 14kg have been recorded. The daily bag limit is one pike per person/four coarse per day. Pike of 4kg and over and coarse greater than 25cm must be returned to the water.

What tactics work well?

Roach/bream hybrid specimens can be caught. Popular flies include Cul de Canard (CDC), Bibio patterns, Kate McClaren and Black Pennel, all of which are effective.

What facilities are on site?

There is access for anglers with difficulty walking from the car park at the lock gates. It is not accessible to wheelchairs. Three wheelchair accessible fishing stands are provided near parking areas. Car parking is now allowed on the canal bank road at Movanagher. It is an ideal venue for competitions with 43 stands available.

Is parking available?

There are three car parks at the canal bank.
