Fishery Information

Approximately three miles outside of Lanark and about one mile from Carstairs is where you will find Newmill Trout Fishery, a commercial trout fishery that features seven ponds, six of which is stocked with trout. Although fishing for trout is the most popular activity, one of the seven ponds serves as a coarse fishing pond stocked with Perch Roach and Tench.  The coarse pond is FREE to fish, and a great place to start fishing.

Catch-and-release fishing is only permitted in one pond, which is appropriately named the Fly Pond. However, the fisheries may be willing to make an exception to this rule if it is not too busy and if you ask in advance. The remaining ponds allow the use of bait, fly fishing, spinning, and soft plastics in their waters.

The Catch and Release pond is a U-shaped body of water that is the second largest in the complex. It is located directly across the bridge from the lodge and shop. A little river called the Mouse Water, which is a tributary of the River Clyde, runs along the border of this pond.
