Fishery Information

Located at pleasant and peaceful Winsford, this still water is one of the oldest, busiest and most prolific fishing sites in the association. Lying in the middle of the Cheshire FA Development, this water was originally known as the Floods and has been around for over a century. It lies at the lowest point of a number of farmers’ fields and formed when water from the fields flowed into the natural hollow. Wondering where the name “The Ocean” came from? Nobody knows.

Ocean Pool has been managed by Winsford & District Angling Association for as long as anyone can remember. In 1963, this water was stocked with king carp that were bought from fisheries in Belgium and southern England. The fish were bred over the years, but smaller carp are also present in the water. Every carp in the lake is a direct descendant of the original stocking over 50 years ago.

Aside from carp, Ocean Pool is also stocked with pike, roach and rudd. This water has marked pegs and has been netted in order to reduce small carp and allow better fish to come through. Access to this water is through the old golf course alongside the hedge. This fishery has marked pegs and is open all year round.
