Fishery Information

Sampford Peverell Ponds were originally created back in the 1900s to help supply the steam trains with water. So if you are wondering why they are so close to the railway, then now you know. That’s also why there is one on either side of the track so that it could supply both lines with water.

Both lakes are of a similar size of 2/3 of an acre in size. The lake on the main Exeter to London railway is the deeper pond at 10ft in depth.

Fish stocks in both lakes are good with carp to 10lb as well as plenty of silverfish such as roach, perch and bream.

There are combination locks on the lakes as it’s run by Exeter and District Anglers.
