Fishery Information

Shalford Lake in Brimpton is a syndicate lake with some very big fish on offer. While many of the anglers join this syndicate for the massive carp, there are a few anglers on this lake going for the other residents that are well worth talking about too.

The lake is spring-fed and has crystal clear water most of the year. The spring brings plenty of natural food into the lake, which is partly why the fish grow so big in this lake. Shalford Lake sits alongside Bottle Lake, and the pair cover about 16 acres, although Shalford is about 6 acres in size.

What size do the fish go to?

As we said, many anglers go to Shalford to catch the large carp. There are carp to 40lbs in this lake. A few 30s are also on offer, even more 20s and plenty of double-figure carp to go around. The bream in this lake also go to a good size of 17.5lb! There are also tench to over 8lbs and some good-sized roach and rudd.

What tactics work well?

Most carp tactics work well on Shalford Lake. There are plenty of overhangs to targets with swims offerings a good view of the whole lake. PVA bags are an ideal tactic here. With a bright bottom bait and some high-attract liquid, you could get one of the big ones.

For the larger bream and tench, a closed feeder with maggots is a good choice. Of course, you can also catch the bream and tench with other bottom-feeding methods like a snowman rig topped with fake maggots or corn.
