Fishery Information

Carp fishing is the name of the game at Silver End Pits. Run by the Kelvedon and District Angling Association, this spot is comprised of two pits loaded with carp and a few other surprises.

The front pit is sized up at three acres with an average depth of eight feet. It’s on the quiet side, with various features from which to fish. Lily beds, reed beds, gravel spots, and gullies all provide creative options for serious anglers.

The back pit is five and a half acres in size and contains open banks, making it susceptible to weather swings. Dotted with purposeful swims, this back area has a gravel bar through the main channel and a carp-loaded channel on the far end. Weeds are an issue when the months get warmer.

Both pits at Silver End are available for night fishing.

What size do the fish go to?

An Essex record was set at the Silver End Pits by Kevin Nash in the 1980s, who brought in a 40-pounder from the front pit spot. Times have changed since then, but these waters still hold plenty of glory for anglers. Most carp in the front pit range in the 20 to 30-pound zone.

The back pit is noted for about a half dozen fish clocking in at over 30 pounds. Many over the 20-pound range can also be found near the back. Pike well over 20 pounds have been hauled out of the back pit’s depths, too.

What tactics work well?

Fish in the front pit are said to be very responsive to most tactics, including floating surface baits and bottom baits. The back pit is likewise active, with fish getting very curious along the far margin.

Members may not use more than two rods at Silver End Pits.

What facilities are on site?

There are toilets on location. One is near the club’s container at the front pit and another is in the rear car park.

Is parking available?

There is a car park on the premises.
