Fishery Information

Leased by the Chelmsford Angling Association in 1984, Tufnell Mere is a wonderful 17-acre treat. This stunning lake boasts a shoreline, giving anglers plenty of protection on windy days. Depths range from three to 20 feet, which creates a versatile fishing experience for anglers of all skill levels.

The association has stocked the waters at Tufnell Mere with a wide variety of fish, including catfish, carp, tench, pike, and bream.

Night fishing is permitted at Tufnell Mere, provided the right permits are in place.

Members are not allowed in the car park until 5:45 am and may reach the lake by 6:00 am. Chelmsford Angling Association regulations stipulate members must depart the water by 10 pm and vacate the car park before 10:15 pm.

What size do the fish go to?

Catfish found in Tufnell Mere range up to 37 pounds, while carp have turned up carrying 27 pounds. Tench are in the four pound range and bream have been located in or around five bounds. 23-pound pike have also been caught in Tufnell Mere.

What tactics work well?

The Chelmsford Angling Association permits the use of two rods at all locations. According to regulations, bait boats are not allowed. Members are permitted to bring guests provided they are not fishing and possess a non-fishing association membership. As per the regulations, guests that wish to fish will need a membership from the Chelmsford Angling Association.
