Fishery Information

Wainstones Pool is a private 2+ acre lake nestled in the North Yorkshire Moors and Cleveland Hills. Originally a 3/4 acre day ticket fishery stocked with mixed species, it was extended to around 2 acres in 2001 and became the exclusive Wainstones Carp Syndicate in 2003. The lake suffered a fish kill in 2017 due to a bacterial outbreak, but was drained and renovated. Today, the lake is home to approximately 125 carp, including the venue’s biggest carp “Maximus” at 39lb 5oz. The pool operates on an exclusive booking system for groups of up to four anglers, from Monday 9am to Thursday 6pm or Friday 9am till Sunday 6pm, or for the full duration.

What size do the fish go to?

Wainstones Pool has a challenging and experienced carp population, with some original residents dating back to 1994 and weighing around 22-23lb. The surviving carp after the fish kill include “Maximus” at 39lb 5oz, “Phoenix” at 36lb 3oz, and “Bazza” around 32lb. New introductions from reputable suppliers have also been made, with some fish exceeding 30lb in 2020.

What tactics work well?

The lake has a demanding nature, with resident carp proving tricky to tempt due to natural food items and the lake’s features, including two islands, overhanging willows, reedbeds, lily beds, and a small “out of bounds” area. Anglers with experience and patience are recommended, and 24-hour tutorial sessions with expert advice are available upon request.

What facilities are on site?

The lake operates on an exclusive booking system, with non-fishing partners also welcome. The site is locked upon entry for added privacy, and the pool has a 2-week closed period in May for carp spawning and recovery. During winter months, fishing operates on a week on week off basis. No facilities are listed on the website, so anglers should come prepared.

Is parking available?

No information is available on parking, so anglers should contact the lake for more details.
