Ackworth Fisheries is in the beautiful countryside of West Yorkshire, just outside Pontefract. For what you can catch at Ackworth Fisheries, the day ticket prices are extremely reasonable. There are two ponds at Ackworth, both of which offer match-style angling, perfect for pleasure anglers and anyone who wants to build a good weight over a session. There is no night fishing at this venue, but that makes the days nice and exciting.
What size do the fish go to?
The fish at Ackworth Fisheries aren’t the largest in the world, but there are some double-figure carp and nice bream. There are also some wonderful koi carp and ghost carp too. Both lakes also have tench, rudd and roach, all to good sizes. There are rumours of big perch at this venue, and there are some amazing goldfish that are a treat to catch.
What tactics work well?
Both ponds respond very well to match-style tactics like waggler, pole and feeder fishing. Ackworth Fisheries has recently banned groundbait from the venue, which has levelled the playing field slightly. So, bring plenty of maggots and corn with you to drip feed your swim throughout the day. Feeder fishing is still possible with particles. A mixture of hemp, corn and maggots in the feeder could be very rewarding.
What facilities are on site?
There are currently no facilities at Ackworth Fisheries, but it is next to a pub that serves food and good ales.
