Fishery Information

Akenham Lakes is no longer a Day Ticket water. It is now a members-only fishery controlled by British Telecom Research Angling Club.

Akenham Lakes is a beautiful complex of two lakes hidden away in the countryside of Suffolk. These two lakes offer a brilliant day’s fishing for just about any angler. Whether you want to catch some big Suffolk carp or try fishing for the first time, these lakes can offer you all this and more.

The first lake on this complex is the perfect carp angler’s lake with some beauties. The other is an excellent match-style lake that can provide a rich bag of species to a seasoned angler. If you’re a beginner, lake two is a great choice. It has a great stock of fish, so you’re sure to catch quickly and get the fishing bug.

What size do the fish go to?

The carp in lake one can go to over 20 lbs, although some locals say they can go even bigger. There are also bream, roach, rudd, perch, and tench on this complex that also go to respectable weights.

What tactics work well?

For the beginner going to Akenham Lakes, most fishing tactics will work. Bring a tin of corn and some good-quality groundbait, and you’ll catch it in no time. Method feeding and other bottom-feeding techniques will attract the larger species in both lakes. Plenty of reed beds around the lakes shouldn’t be ignored.

What facilities are on site?
