Fishery Information

Colnbrook West is a medium-sized gravel pit that is about square in shape with a wide variety of characteristics, both on land and in the waters surrounding it. It has a decent reputation for its angling and is a good local location for coarse and specimen carp fishing.

The fish population is healthy relative to the size of the body of water, which is around 4.5 acres in area. There is a nice selection of coarse fish available, such as tench, bream, and plenty of specimen carp, among other options.

On one side of the body of water is a tiny island, in addition to a great deal of reed beds, lily pads, and silt patches. When you consider the size, the depth is also rather good in some places. It is also encircled by tree lines, creating an atmosphere that is partly protected from the elements.

The Grundon Lakeside Road Incinerator is located on one side of the pond, while the massive Grundon Waste Management complex is located on the other side of the pond. This can be a bit of a downer on the atmosphere, especially if you are looking for a serene and natural environment to spend your time in. Aside from that, they do not in any way impact the quality of the fishing.

What size do the fish go to?

Tench can reach a maximum weight of 11 pounds, bream can reach a maximum weight of 12 pounds, and specimen carp can weigh anywhere from 20 to over 30 pounds. The record fish for the lake is 38 pounds.
