Fishery Information

Hawstead Fishing Lakes is a beautiful complex of two lakes set into the countryside just outside of Bury St Edmunds. Both of the lakes offer a peaceful, tranquil environment with some spectacular fishing.

Willow Lake is the largest lake on the site. It is a two and a half acre lake that is stocked nicely with plenty of species, including carp, tench, perch, bream, roach and rudd.

Spring Head Lake is a lot smaller but is stocked nicely with Crucian carp and tench, along with other silverfish. Fishing to the island almost always ensures a good day’s fishing.

What size do the fish go to?

Willow Lake has carp up to 33lbs. There is also some amazing tench to 5lbs, as well as some impressively sized perch too. The rest of the fish species in this lake were added recently but are growing very nicely.

What tactics work well?

Spring Head lake is designed for beginners, so most tactics work well in this lake, but float fishing with corn and some groundbait is a good option.

Willow Lake is mainly fished by carp anglers, and carp tactics work best here. However, the tench do respond well to closed feeders if you’d like to target them. For the carp, try a single hook bait to showing fish with a few free offerings.

What facilities are on site?

Along with excellent fishing, Hawstead Fishing Lakes also offers accommodation in a beautiful country cottage.

Is parking available?

Yes, parking is available near the lakes.
