Fishery Information

Controlled by the Warrington Anglers Association, High Legh Fisheries is a former commercial fishery on farmland near to Arley Hall. This fishery comprises 2 ponds, a figure of 8 lake and a small yet deep horseshoe-shaped pit surrounded by matured trees.

The Figure of 8 pond is known to be shallow and weedy but boasts a dozen pegs to choose from. Generally 3 to 4 feet deep, this water is home to tench, crucian carp, roach and rudd.

The smaller pond can be found just behind the main pond. This deep water has 5 to 6 pegs to fish from, so children should always be accompanied. Fish species present include roach, perch, bream and carp to 8 lbs.

What size do the fish go to?

Carp go to 8 lbs.

What tactics work well?

For Figure of 8 pond, pole or float rod tactics using maggots or bread for bait produce great results. Take a weedrake and rake your swim to clear the Canadian pondweed and induce the fish to feed. Ghost carp respond well to floating baits, sweet corn or luncheon meat. Make sure to use adequate tackle because they head straight for the weed when hooked.

For the smaller pond, maggots and bread produce desirable results.
