Fishery Information
Hinksey Lake is a scenic gravel pit located next to Hinksey Park. The lake is divided into two sections, with depths up to 12 feet. The water is clear during winter and spring, but becomes green with algae and dense with weed in the summer. The lake features lilies and floating cage islands, which attract various fish species.
What size do the fish go to?
- Tench: Up to double figures
- Carp: Up to mid-thirties
- Bream: Up to 7lb
- Roach and Rudd: Up to 2lb
- Perch: Up to 3lb
- Pike: Up to 30lb
What tactics work well?
- For pike: Large deadbaits in the margins or popped up in the weed; lures also work well
- For tench, bream, and silvers: Feeder with chopped worm, maggot, or caster; fish tight to the cage islands and in the margins
- Prebaiting is recommended due to the difficulty of catching fish
- Targeting carp can be challenging, as there are only a few in the lake
