Fishery Information

This fishery is run by Ulverston Angling Association.

Knottallow Tarn is a picturesque Lakeland Tarn located on the fells, approximately 1 mile north of Ulverston. It covers approximately 6 acres and is stocked exclusively with Brown Trout, offering anglers the opportunity to catch fish up to 3 lbs. The Tarn, which was manmade over 150 years ago, is split into two parts by an old causeway, about 80 meters from the dam. The causeway allows fish access to both areas of the Tarn. Knottallow Tarn relies on natural springs, rainfall, and some land drainage for its water inflow, giving it a natural and pristine character.

What size do the fish go to?

Knottallow Tarn is stocked exclusively with Brown Trout, and anglers have the opportunity to catch fish weighing up to 3 lbs. As a natural water, the Tarn is well-suited for anglers who adopt an imitative approach due to its abundance of natural fly life.

What tactics work well?

Fishing at Knottallow Tarn is limited to conventional fly fishing methods only. The Tarn has an average depth of just under 2 meters, making it suitable for fishing with a floating line throughout the fishing season.
