Fishery Information

This fishery is run by Leatherhead & District Angling Society.

The Long Copse Fishery consists of two ponds: Long Copse Top Pond (Spring Grove) and Long Copse Small Pond. They are located at the junction of Eastwick Drive and Spring Grove in Great Bookham, Surrey. The ponds are easily accessible from the road with ample parking.

Long Copse Top Pond (Spring Grove)

This is the larger pond, spanning one and a quarter acres. It can accommodate up to 18 anglers and offers a variety of fish species. The pond is known for its common and mirror carp ranging from 2 to 14 pounds, with the occasional ghost carp. Anglers often catch double-figure fish, providing a challenge due to the presence of prolific reed beds. In addition to carp, the pond contains roach, rudd, perch, tench, and has recently been stocked with a shoal of bream.

Long Copse Small Pond

The smaller pond at Long Copse Fishery is a popular spot, especially among junior anglers. It offers a prolific head of fish, making it relatively easy to catch. The pond is home to carp up to 12 pounds, crucian carp, tench, roach, rudd, some good perch, and a few ornamental goldfish.

What size do the fish go to?

In Long Copse Top Pond, the common and mirror carp can reach weights of up to 14 pounds, with occasional double-figure fish. The other species in the pond vary in size, and the recently stocked bream shoal is still growing.

In Long Copse Small Pond, the carp can reach weights of up to 12 pounds, with a range of sizes for the other fish species.

What tactics work well?

Various tactics can be effective depending on the target species. For carp, using boilies, pellets, or carp rigs can yield good results. Roach, rudd, perch, tench, and bream can be caught using traditional float fishing techniques with maggots, worms, or other suitable baits.
