Fishery Information

This fishery is run by Royal Forest of Dean Angling Club.

A small, pretty pool quite close to Steam Mills lake, Meadowcliff is a hidden gem that is not frequently visited by hikers and mountain bikers. It is located on the site of an old colliery working, with a spoil heap to the west of the pool and remnants of Northern United Colliery to the north.

The lake is leased from Forestry England by RFODAC (name of the fishing club) and can be accessed using FE roads and tracks. The recommended access route is from A4136 Mitchedean to Coleford road.

To reach Meadowcliff from the A4136, head north of Cinderford and pass the set of lights heading towards Coleford. Take a left into the old Northern United Colliery and follow the track for approximately 500 yards. You’ll pass the old Northern United buildings on your right, and you’ll notice a green Forestry gate on your right. Parking is available on the track nearby, ensuring it does not obstruct the track or the gate’s opening arc.

Please exercise caution when driving on the tracks as they can be rough, rutted, and prone to man-sized potholes, especially after wet weather or heavy forestry traffic.

Those with a Forestry key can open the gate and drive to the small car park located adjacent to three of the swims on the north side of the lake.
