Mescar Fisheries

Address

Merseyside, Eager Ln, Lydiate L31 4HS, United Kingdom

Fishery Information

To the north of Liverpool close to the town of Lydiate in Lancashire, Mescar Fisheries features three well-stocked lakes in a prime fishing location as well as a series of ponds. The A59 is the nearest main road and there are major road hubs not far away making this an easy place to find.

Mescar Lake is the choice for anglers looking for prime carp and features five bays and an island. At 4.5acres it is the biggest of the lakes here and houses a good head of carp plus bream, perch and – an unusual fish in such a fishery – many ide or orfe. Mistral Lake is a 3.5acre water that houses good size carp, chub and barbel. A popular lake with members it is advised for consistent fishing.

Marin Lake is another 3.5acre water stocked with smaller carp plus bream and ide, and is ideal for those new to angling. Greenslane Ponds are also part of the fishery and offers a good head of carp plus many other species to decent sizes. It is the water which locals say guarantees a bite.

Mescar Fisheries is a member’s only club and at the time of writing is full, but we recommend keeping an eye open for spaces as it is one of the prime fishing locations in the region.

What size do the fish go to?

All lakes contain good head of carp with the largest being in the 23lb area. Bream up to 5lb can be caught in Mescar Lake, while 4lb barbel are caught in Mistral Lake. Ide of up to 2lb are an unusual catch too.

What tactics work well?

Floats for carp on all lakes, with bait being largely maggot plus corn and pellet.

What facilities are on site?

As a standard fishery there are no facilities at Mescar Fishery but there is a club tackle shop that is for members only and reserve online. The nearby town Lydiate has a choice of pubs, shops and places to eat.

Is parking available?

Parking is available in the fishery for members.
