Fishery Information

The Midmar Stillwater Fishery is a family-owned and -operated trout fishery located in the picturesque countryside of Aberdeenshire. It is only a 20-minute drive from the Aberdeen city centre.  The fishery encompasses around 12 acres of spring-fed water spread across three ponds, each of which has a variety of trout that puts up a good fight. The fish stocked is brown, blue, and rainbow trout.

During the spring, summer, and fall seasons, the fishing is open every week from Wednesday through Sunday, but closes for the season during the winter. In all other circumstances, it closes at the onset of evening.

The water is clean and a comfortable temperature, making it ideal for trout and the fishery does not prioritize larger, heavier fish as the target. Instead, it gives the regulars the opportunity to catch battling fish, which will put their nerve to the test.

What size do the fish go to?

Depending on the availability, the fishery stocks a variety of sizes ranging from one pound to three pounds.

What tactics work well?

Fly fishing- Even though the fish are not fed by Midmar Fishery once they are released into the water, the trout remain healthy, well nourished, and ready to swim due to the profusion of insect life. Because the fish feed on natural foods, natural patterns are typically the most effective choice for luring them into striking a bite.

What facilities are on site?

The facilities consist of a custom-designed fishing lodge that features fully accessible restrooms, kitchen facilities, and a log burning stove for added ambiance. Tea and coffee are provided free of charge.

Is parking available?

Yes, parking is available.
