Nestled in the surroundings of the South Downs National Park is the Moorhen Trout Fishery. This is a great Hampshire stillwater, with an abundance of rainbow trout teeming the crystal-clear waters.

Moorhen is open Monday to Friday for day pass fishing, while the weekends are generally reserved for club bookings and match fishing.

Noted for being a great spot for experienced anglers and novices alike, the Moorhen Trout Fishery is filled with plenty of picturesque views and well-appointed swims. It’s an ideal location for getting away from it all.

The three-acre lake is fed by a spring and sits next to the River Meon.

What size do the fish go to?

The rainbow trout at the Moorhen Trout Fishery are fighters, carrying about two and a half pounds of attitude. Some range into the double-digits, so anglers are best served to prepare for a challenge on the water.

What tactics work well?

This is a catch-and-keep facility.

Anglers can purchase tickets based on how many fish will be caught. Rod and tackle rental is possible and novices can obtain the services of an instructor for two hours.

There are no time restrictions at Moorhen Trout Fishery, but anglers are asked to depart by 7:00 pm or dusk.

Dogs are not permitted at the fishery.

What facilities are on site?

There is a modern lodge on the property, complete with a log fire.

A bait and tackle shop is located at Moorhen, along with toilets and light refreshments.

A pub is two miles away, offering food, drinks, and accommodation.

Is parking available?

There is ample parking at the Moorhen Trout Fishery.
