Fishery Information

The Timsbury Fishery is located in the little community of Timsbury, between Romsey and Stockbridge on the banks of the River Test. The fishery is accessible through electric gates along a private road, and surrounded by privately owned acres of classic chalk stream water meadows.  The fishery is split between the River Test and two carrier tributaries. It consists of four separate beats spread out over more than three kilometers of bank.

The fishing focuses primarily on brown trout and anglers use dry flies and nymphs fished upstream. Fishing for salmon is allowed, however all salmon caught must be released back into the river. The bearer of a share in Timsbury Fishery Limited is granted the privilege of using one fishing rod on a predetermined day once every other week for the duration of the fishing season.

The four beats are fished in a rotating pattern, and each rod will fish all of the available waters once every eight weeks.  participants can arrange to trade dates with one another, rent out, or give away their particular rod on certain days.  In addition, there is a “free for all” period at the end of the beat rotation plan between the beginning of October and the end of the season. During this time, members have the right to fish whenever they want and on any beat within the fishery.

What size do the fish go to?

The fishery is stocked with both rainbow and brown trout, with rainbow trout averaging about 3 pounds and the record rainbow trout to the fishery weighing 12 pounds. Brown trout have been known to reach weights of up to 20 pounds.
