Fishery Information

Nether Mill Coarse Fishery is in Penistone, just outside Sheffield. It is a purpose-built fishery that was built about 10 years ago. The lake is two acres and has 32 pegs with a depth of 4-5ft throughout. It was cleverly designed with three islands to allow plenty of access for all of the anglers on the lake.

Over the last 10 years, the plants around the lake have grown nicely. There are now plenty of reed beds in the margin providing oxygen and good spawning grounds for this fish. It isn’t just the fishing that was cleverly planned out here, Nether Mill Coarse Fishery is designed to help the fish grow, breed and feed, and that is good news for the anglers.

What size do the fish go to?

Right now, the lake has carp to 20lbs, but they are growing nicely, and there are plenty of them. There are loads of double-figure carp to catch. There is also bream to 10lbs, roach to an impressive 3lbs, tench, perch and some brown trout too.

What tactics work well?

Fishing to the islands is the natural tactic on this lake. However, try some match-style angling here and bait a margin swim during the day. If the island fishing dries up, this margin swim could keep the action going.

What facilities are on site?

The two car parks provide good access to the lake, and disabled access pegs are just a short distance from the car parks. There’s a gravel path around the lake, making it easy to get your gear to the peg.

Is parking available?

There are two car parks available.
