Fishery Information

Surface duckweed is the name of the game at Railway Pond, a small fishery located at Heybridge Approach. Users should take note of pond conditions, as a layer of weed can make fishing difficult. Check ahead of time before booking tickets.

The Maldon Angling Society oversees Railway Pond.

Railway Pond is notable because of its location, which puts it near many other Maldon Angling Society Waters. Those fishing between June 16 and March 14 will have their passes to Railway Pond valid on Chelmer and Blackwater Channel.

There is no closed season for Railway Pond. The water is stocked with small tench, ghost carp, crucian, and roach.

Anglers must follow all Maldon Angling Society regulations. Required tickets are available for purchase at JP Tackle on Maldon High Street. Season ticket holders can access night fishing, with normal opening hours from 5 am to 10 pm. Cereal groundbait and peanuts are not allowed at Railway Pond. Anglers can use a maximum of two rods.

Swims must be kept free of litter and fish may not be killed or removed from the fishery. If you are using a keepnet, fish may not be kept in captivity for longer than six hours. Fish showing signs of distress must be released.

Radios and fires are not permitted at Railway Pond. Dogs are not allowed on the premises, with the exception of guide dogs.

What size do the fish go to?

Fish at Railway Pond are on the smaller side. Carp sacks are prohibited and any carp over five pounds are not to be retained by any method.

What tactics work well?

Note that fixed weights over one pound are not allowed at Railway Pond. Bait must not be discarded at the end of the session and live baits are not permitted. Anglers may not fish more than halfway across the pond toward other anglers, while all users must have a landing net and an unhooking mat.

Braided main lines and leadcore lines are also prohibited.

Is parking available?

Parking is available on the spur road adjacent the pond. It is not recommended to park at the nearby Tesco.
