Fishery Information

Overseen by the Farnham Angling Society, the River Blackwater on Yateley Road is a lovely piece of small river that reaches out for about a mile.

Featuring some overhanging trees and a number of straight patches for trotting, the River Blackwater is part of the Yateley East Complex.

The Farnham Angling Society purchased this spot – and seven other Yateley Complex lakes – in 2013. They began a refurbishment project, saving the fisheries from being split up as the former holding company intended.

River Blackwood was part of what used to be a Cemex lot, but it is now home to a well-stocked mix of fish. This spot features silver fish, carp, and some barbel.

Anglers can purchase a season ticket to fish at River Blackwood.

What size do the fish go to?

Barbel from seven to 14 pounds appear in the river, along with chub up to four pounds. Dace up to one pound and roach up to a pound and a half are possible, while two-pound perch also frequent this fishing spot.

What tactics work well?

River fishing requires a bit of adjustment, but this spot has rather shallow water with an abundance of fast runs to make it interesting. The deeper areas, particularly near the trees, pack some of the best fishing at River Blackwood. Chub like to congregate under the refuge of the branches.

Fishing may only be done on one bank of the River Blackwood. Check the Yateley East Complex available from the Society for more information.

What facilities are on site?

There are toilets on location.

Is parking available?

There is secure parking on location at the Yateley East Complex.
