Ullswater is the second largest lake in Cumbria. This beautiful water is 7 miles long and just over half a mile wide. It holds stunning perch to 3 lbs, pike, char and schelly, and is best known for its stock of wild brown trout.

What tactics work well?

The best time to catch wild brown trout is from March through late June. Fly fishing for wild brown trout using traditional loch style is known to be the most effective approach.

Perch fishing is best done using simple feeder with worm or maggot hook-bait when fishing from the bank. Boat fishing lures, float fished worm and small dead-baits in winter are also productive.
