Fishery Information

Whins Pond is located in Cumbria, along the A686 about 2 miles from Penrith on the right hand side and clearly signposted near Edenhall. Peaceful and scenic, this coarse water covers about 8 acres and is well-stocked with tench, bream to 14 lbs, carp to over 20 lbs and roach. It has 30 pegs available. Rods, reels and bait are supplied by the owners.

This water is perfect for pleasure, match and specimen anglers. It also has lots of features to fish to such as overhanging trees, water lily beds and comfortable platform style swims.

Match bookings are accepted and regular matches are held by the fishery management. Permits are available on site.

What size do the fish go to?

Bream go to 14 lbs and carp to over 20 lbs.

What tactics work well?

Maggots work well for catching small roach. Most of the better fish respond well to caster and chopped worm. Tench and bream fall to sweet corn. Feeder is also a popular method but the water is best approached with pole. There is a good depth beyond 4 metres off most pegs where big bream and tench usually patrol close in.
