Fishery Information

A fishery close to the centre of Liverpool, Walton Hall Park Lake offers an excellent chance to land good sized carp. Easy to reach by car or public transport, this is a lake favoured by locals and also by those looking to fish away from their usual haunts.

The 3-acre lake features two islands and is surrounded by a hard path. The lake is controlled by Liverpool County Council and is free to fish when you obtain the appropriate permit for fishing in all of the Liverpool park lakes.

With carp in the lake believed to be in excess of 30lbs, Walton Hall Park Lake is regarded by regulars as a challenging coarse fishing water. There is plenty of easy access here although it is not clear if the lake is suitable for disabled persons and wheelchair users.

As with all Liverpool park lakes anglers are expected to abide by the code of conduct and respect the surroundings. Be aware the park is in the centre of housing estates and popular with visitors.

What size do the fish go to?

The latest reports suggest carp in Walton Hall Park Lake have exceeded 30lb. There are thought to be few if any other locations in Liverpool offering such large possible catches. It is believed the lake contains just 50 or so fish, with around a dozen being 20lb-plus. There are also said to be bream, roach, tench and perch in the lake.

What facilities are on site?

There are no facilities on the lake itself and those in the park are sparse. The surrounding area offers a choice of shops, pubs and places to eat. There is also an established tackle shop – Johnson’s Tackle in Rice Lane – just a mile from the park where you can catch up on the latest information about local fishing.

Is parking available?

There is a car park at the park and also parking is available in the surrounding area.
