Fishery Information

Hexham’s AA Wydon Burn is a 20-peg former reservoir in Hexham, Northumberland, refurbished and opened in April 2010. It reaches a depth of up to 8 feet and teems with fish including Crucian Carp, Roach, Rudd, and Tench. Day passes are on sale at GOJO and Top Tackle in Hexham for non TAA members.

If a Junior angler is fishing from the same peg as a Senior, they are exempt from paying the fishing fee. Those with mobility impairments can fish from one of eighteen specially designed platforms.

What size do the fish go to?

Tench to 3 pounds, roach with some quality fish to 1 pound 8 ounces, crucians, and rudd to 8 ounces.

What tactics work well?

Although float fishing is most effective, ledgering is sometimes worthwhile. Simple fishing methods and baits, such as maize for the tench, are effective. Bread, maggots, and caster work for the other species. Those who are more daring might want to experiment with seed baits in order to catch larger roach.
