Fishery Information

The fishing experience in Wyndham’s Pool and Hospital Pond is just as exciting as their respective histories. The ponds date back to World War II, when British soldiers utilized them as sighting aids for German bombers.

After some time had passed, a member of the local police force replenished them with fish. Today the ponds are operated and controlled by the Hartley Winterny Angling Society.

The Wyndham’s Pool is home to a number of coarse fish species in addition to huge carp, including pike, roach, perch, and tench.

The hospital pond that is on the right as you enter the site has a large population of little fish, is always good for a bite, and is a nice area to take a child that wants to learn how to fish. However, you should be aware that there are the occasional larger carp than those on Wyndham’s lake that might take off with the string and bait.
