Fishery Information

Birkin Fisheries has two lakes. One is quite small with a large island that most of the pegs have access to. The other, larger lake has about 50 well constructed wooden pegs with ample room for the anglers to have a few swims open at any one time. This lake has a large island running the length of the lake, so any peg can access the island and wait for a good bite.

The larger lake sees most of the action, and the shape of it lends itself nicely to pole fishing. The island is about 12 metres away from most pegs, so even waggler fishing to the island is possible here.

What size do the fish go to?

The carp grow to about 20lbs. There are also some lovely bream at Birkin Fisheries that go to 8lbs and hard-fighting tench to 6lbs. There is also plenty of skimmers, roach and rudd that can build a good weight over a day’s session.

What tactics work well?

Meat and corn are very good hookbaits on this venue, but so are pellets. Groundbait is an absolute game-changer at Birkin Fisheries, though. Baiting a nice area with groundbait and a few free offerings regularly is a sure-fire way of keeping the fish in your swim. Don’t forget to bait a margin swim as well as the island, though. Once the action dies down at the island, the margins are the place to fish.

What facilities are on site?

The facilities at Birkin Fisheries are limited.

Is parking available?

Yes, parking is available.
