Fishery Information

This fishery is run by Crosshands Angling Club.

Bowds Lake is situated just off the M4 Junction 17. It offers a well-developed pond providing excellent angling opportunities for various species of good size fish, including Perch, Tench, Roach, Rudd, Bream, Pike, and Eels. At the present time, there are also Pike and Eels of good sizes available in the lake.

What size do the fish go to?

The fish in Bowds Lake can reach good sizes, with Carp up to 28lb and over twenty doubles and back up high teens. The Bream can reach up to 13lb with an average weight of 6lb. The silvers, including Perch, can weigh up to 2lb, and Eels can reach sizes of up to 7lb.

What tactics work well?

For Bowds Lake, anglers can use a maximum of 2 rods with barbless hooks, maximum size 10. Unhooking mats must be used when unhooking large fish on the bank. Floating baits are not allowed on any club waters. Anglers should also avoid using fish over 3lb in keepnets, except in club matches, and no Carp over 2lb in keepnets, also except in club matches. The use of braided mainline is not permitted, only braid hook length. Additionally, fixed method feeders or fixed bolt rigs are not allowed. Fly fishing on River Frome is allowed for catch and release.

What facilities are on site?

Bowds Lake provides the following facilities:

  • Combination lock on the main gate with code provided on membership renewal
  • Parking available on the gravel verge on the right-hand side (please avoid blocking the private road to the farm or any farm gates)
  • On-site unhooking mats for handling large fish
  • Designated pegs for fishing, no fishing boxes or platforms in the lakes
  • On-site toilets
  • On-site fishing hut
