Fishery Information

Nestled in the Meon Valley is the Chiphall Lake Trout Fishery.

Comprised of four and a half acres of clear water fed from the River Meon, this fishery is home to a great stock of rainbow trout, brown trout, and golden trout.

Fishing is done by a ticket system, where anglers pay by the amount caught. Tickets can be held over to another day if anglers do not obtain their allocations.

What size do the fish go to?

The largest fish caught at Chiphall Lake Trout Fishery was an 18 pound, 13 ounce rainbow trout. A brown trout of nine pounds, two ounces was also brought in from these waters.

What tactics work well?

A six-weight outfit with a floating line is the suggested fly fishing system for the first day out at Chiphall. Leader lengths should be about nine feet, with four to six pounds of breaking strain.

Most types of flies will do the job, but some days are better than others. Advice can be found on location if anglers are curious about what’s biting on a given day, so don’t be afraid to ask around.

Chiphall Lake also offers tuition, with experienced anglers teaching the uninitiated everything from casting and setting up tackle to fish behaviour and how to play a catch.

What facilities are on site?

There are toilets on location. Complimentary tea and coffee are available for anglers. There is also a lakeside lodge.

This facility is suitable for disabled anglers.

Is parking available?

There is a car park beside the water.
