Fishery Information

Elsecar Reservoir is one of the large reservoirs dotted around the lovely South Yorkshire countryside. It is a 12-acre lake which does make finding the fish a bit tricky. Many locals rely on the bird population of the reservoir to let them know where the feeding fish are. Once you find the fish, you can catch them throughout the day, but don’t be afraid to move around the lake to increase your chances.

Elsecar Reservoir holds matches very often, and many locals fish this place on the pole or with other match-style tactics. For any carp anglers that are willing to put in the work, there are some big carp to catch, though.

What size do the fish go to?

The largest carp caught in recent memory here was over 20lbs, but there could be bigger carp here. There are also 8lb bream and tench to about 5lbs. Good weights of rudd and roach are also possible here. There are also some good pike in the water that can reach over 20lbs.

What tactics work well?

Most anglers on this lake use feeders to get out a long way. Groundbait and maggots are a great choice for these if you are targeting bream and larger roach and rudd. If you are targeting the pike, dead baits are the best option. For the big carp? No one really knows.

What facilities are on site?

There are no facilities at Elsecar Reservoir.

Is parking available?
