Fishery Information

Operated by the Verulam Angling Club, the Frogmore Fisheries features two lakes.

The Club has been overseeing the lakes for decades, starting back when the removal of gravel turned the site into a series of lagoons. The lagoons were stocked with fish and the saga of Frogmore began, with some years kind and others not so much. The Club has since refurbished the fisheries here and positive signs for the future abound.

Match Lake is full of features and depth variations, which make for excellent fishing. Large catches of bream and carp are common enough, while good doses of roach and rudd are also found. Reeds and islands dot the landscape, presenting a picturesque environment that is as easy on the eye as it is on the rod.

Tony’s Lake is unique in that the water is clearer than Match Lake and the weeds like to take over. This makes for a great spot for tench, but it also makes for some interesting sport.

This is a membership water. The season begins on June 16 and runs for a year.

What size do the fish go to?

Tench up to six pounds can turn up in Tony’s Lake.

What tactics work well?

Baits like pellet, corn, lunch meat, and maggots can top the charts at Match Lake, especially when the weather is right. Carp love the surface when the sun’s out.

The summer means clearing weeds on Tony’s Lake, though. The tench are attracted to the stuff, but anglers will sometimes need to clear a path to find a spot to fish.

What facilities are on site?

There are toilets available. These are cleaned regularly.

Is parking available?

There is parking available.
