Fishery Information

Leighton Reservoir is surrounded by the stunning beauty of Wensleydale and the Pennines. This is a 90-acre reservoir, so it is a very big venue. While Leighton Reservoir may not be the best place for beginner fly anglers, it is well known as a premier fly fishing venue with some stunning trout to catch if you can find them. The reservoir is stocked regularly, so there is plenty of trout to catch, which greatly helps on a water this size.

Leighton Reservoir is now under the guidance of the owners of Bessey Beck, another excellent fly fishing venue close by. They know plenty about fly fishing and have made this venue even better than it was before.

What size do the fish go to?

The trout range from 2lbs to 15lbs. However, even the bailiffs at this trout fishery aren’t too sure if there are larger fish in this water. As the reservoir is so larger, chances are, there are some absolute monsters here that are yet to be caught.

What tactics work well?

The best tactics at this fly fishery greatly depend on the time of year you go. However, the trout respond well to the usual culprits. If you aren’t sure which fly to use, speak with the bailiffs when you arrive. They know the reservoir extremely well and know what the trout respond well to throughout the year.

What facilities are on site?

There are currently no facilities, but the owners of Bessey Beck are working hard to put facilities in place.

Is parking available?

Yes, parking is available.
