Fishery Information

The magnificent Nostell Priory Estate is home to a number of fishing lakes including the ‘Large Lake’ and the ‘Upper Lake’. Located close to Wragby in Yorkshire, the Top Lake is managed by Ashfield Angling club.

The setting – in the grounds of a historic country house – is perfect for angling and Ashfield Angling Club, who took on the Upper Lake in 2018 with a view to renovating this 20-acre estate lake, have done a wonderful job.

Upper Lake is a long-established lake formerly used by the Estate for fish stock and is known to be home to a good selection of specimen carp, plus tench, bream and pike. The Large Lake is also home to a good head of sizeable carp.

Fishing at Upper Lake is members only with membership applied for on the club website. Entry is via locked gates with a club issued key required.

What size do the fish go to?

Both lakes mentioned are well-known historically for their sizeable carp plus other coarse fish. One specimen pike, known as ‘The Big’un’, is in excess of 40lbs. Also caught are tench of 10lb, and bream of god sizes.

What facilities are on site?

There are no facilities on site as the lakes are within the grounds of a private estate.

Is parking available?

Parking is available but is limited, and visitors are asked to take care and be considerate.
