Fishery Information

Boxmoor and District Angling Society’s newest acquisition is Pixies Mere.

This spot is a mature four-acre lake that once held a somewhat legendary reputation, but the Society’s reopening of the gates has renewed interest. Catches have since been prolific and enjoyment at Pixies Mere is back on the charts again, a welcome sight indeed.

There are lots of features on the lakes and plenty of creative spots from which to fish, with fluctuating depths of three to four feet leading to a deeper six-to-10 foot hole around the latter pegs. Features include islands, overhanging willows, lily pads, and more.

The stock of Pixies Mere includes pike, mirror and common carp, ghosties, carp, roach, perch, bream, and tench.

What size do the fish go to?

Carp scale up to 33 pounds, with ghost carp clocking 22 pounds. Pile up to 21 pounds are in these waters, as well as bream up to nine pounds and tench up to eight. Roach around a pound and a half are common.

What tactics work well?

Back in the day, spicy chicken was actually the legendary bait of Pixies Mere. Anglers used to swear by the stuff, with spicy chicken and spicy shrimp boilies able to haul in big carp. Things may have evolved since then, but carp in these waters love the taste of sweet corn and may still have a hankering for more creative baits.

Check with the Society for rules and regulations.

Barbless hooks only.

No nuts, keepnets, bait boats, or fires.

Barbecues are permitted but must be on stands.

What facilities are on site?

There are four purpose-built swims specifically designed for disabled anglers. These include nearby parking and bumper stops for wheelchairs.

There are toilets.

Is parking available?

There is a main car park at Pixies Mere, complete with a map of the property.
