Fishery Information

An easy venue to find, Ripon Racecourse is a beautiful 22-acre well-stocked and maintained gravel pit that is home to over 250 carp to 35 lbs. Other fish species present in this water include tench, bream, pike and roach.

The venue entrance can be located next to Hewick Bridge, on the Boroughbridge road, heading out of Ripon. Head through the green metal gates, which you will need a key to access. Follow the track to the side of the lake. You can drive up the left hand side of the lake, but must park as per the signs if you are fishing on the right hand side.

What size do the fish go to?

Carp go to 35 lbs.

What tactics work well?

It is recommended to spend some time working out your swim with a ledger to find clear gravel spots to feed over. Aside from bait placement, other popular tactics include ledgered boilies or zig rigs over a bed of loose feed, method feeder and surface baits.
